Depression

Symptoms of depression

Depression encompasses a range of symptoms that affect mood, thoughts, and physical well-being. These include persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or emptiness. Changes in appetite, sleep disturbances (insomnia or hypersomnolence), decreased energy, and difficulty concentrating are common. Loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed, irritability, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, and thoughts of death or suicide are also symptoms of depression. Physical symptoms such as headaches, body aches or digestive problems may accompany emotional distress.

when to get help for depression

It’s important to seek help for depression when symptoms last more than two weeks, significantly affect daily life, or cause distress. If feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness intensify, or thoughts of self-harm arise, immediate professional help is necessary.
